KNM: Knowledge of Dutch Society
Knowledge of Dutch Society (KNM) is a compulsory part of the civic integration examination. That is why our civic integration courses already pay considerable attention to the knowledge you need for the KNM exam. Our exam preparation training also helps you prepare for this part of the exam. For those who only want to practise this part of the exam, we offer an individual KNM course. This course helps you, as a newcomer, to better understand Dutch society and gives you the extra practise and preparation for this part of the civic integration examination.
KNM Course – Knowledge of Dutch Society
Would you like to be well prepared for the integration exam and gain a better understanding of Dutch society? In this course, you will learn in an interactive way how the Netherlands works – from values and norms to current affairs and culture.
What will you learn?
In 4 individual lessons, we cover all 10 chapters of the Taal Compleet KNM book. You will read texts, complete assignments in the book and online, and discuss current topics using newspaper articles and videos. The subjects are practical and closely connected to everyday life in the Netherlands.
How do you track your progress?
We closely monitor your progress during the course. At the end, you will take an online mock exam for KNM. This will give you a clear picture of your readiness for the official exam.
Assessment
At the end of the course, you will take an online mock exam. The book assignments and online exercises will also be reviewed and assessed.
Vocabulary
You’ll learn many new words during the lessons. But to really make progress, it’s important to practise outside class as well. Reading Dutch texts, listening to Dutch audio, and watching Dutch videos will help you a lot.
Homework
You will receive homework in the form of online exercises. These help reinforce the material and improve your chances of success in the exam.
With this course, you not only build your language skills, but also develop a strong understanding of Dutch society. It’s a solid step towards integration and active participation in the Netherlands.

Admission Requirements
Due to the pace and nature of our courses, previous experience with learning a foreign language is a prerequisite for registration. In most cases, this will be English, but it may also be another foreign language, such as Spanish. We also expect participants to demonstrate sufficient commitment and motivation, as well as respect for commonly accepted norms and values in the Netherlands.

Civic Integration & State Examination
New Civic Integration & State Examination courses start regularly throughout the year, so you never have to wait long to begin. At the end of each course, you can immediately register for the next one, which starts a week later.

The Civic Integration and State Examination course is offered in Utrecht, Rotterdam, and online. Lesson days and times are fixed and are only changed in exceptional cases.
