Dutch in Practice B1.2
In this course, you will develop your language skills step by step up to B1 level. You’ll learn how to express empathy and offer reassurance, give strong reactions, ask for and give opinions, agree or disagree, initiate contact, say when you don’t want or are unable to say something, complain, negotiate, describe people and things, and talk about themes such as travel, education, money, and art and culture.
Would you like to speak Dutch with confidence at work and in your social life? In this course, you will develop your language skills step by step up to B1 level. You will learn how to empathize and reassure others, respond to a discussion partner, indicate that you don’t want or are unable to say something, give a stronger reaction, describe people and things in more detail, and talk about topics such as education, sustainability, money, and art and culture.
In class, you will practice grammar in a focused way to make your language use more precise. You will work with verbs with te and om … te, the use of er, relative clauses with prepositions, the verb zou/zouden for irrealis, the passive voice, and the present participle.
Study materials:
We will use the textbook Nederlands in Actie, chapters 6–11 (including e-learning), the B1.2 study guide from Lest Best, Quizlet, the Lest Best YouTube channel, and additional exercises on compound verbs and fixed prepositions.
Assessment and certificate:
You will complete assignments and tests covering speaking, listening, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. After completing the course, you will receive a certificate with your results. With a positive recommendation, you can continue to the B2.1 course.
This course is designed for people who want to communicate effectively in Dutch at work and in everyday life. It is not aimed at the integration or state exams. Entry Requirements
This course is for people who want to communicate effectively in Dutch at work and in social situations. The course is not aimed at the integration or state exams. You will learn the basics of Dutch to manage everyday situations in the workplace and in social life.

Due to the pace and nature of our courses, experience in learning a foreign language is required upon enrolment. In most cases, this means English, but it could also be another foreign language such as Spanish. We also expect sufficient motivation and commitment from participants, as well as respect for common values and norms in the Netherlands.

Dutch in Practice
Dutch in Practice courses start three times a year: in March, September, and December. Each course lasts three months. At the end of the course, you can register for the next one, which begins a week later.
