Educational Pathway for Higher Education (HBO/University) – WI2021

The first year focuses on NT2 education and academic orientation, supported by a buddy or peer mentor. The goal is to develop Dutch language skills up to B2 level and to pass the State Exam Programme II. There is some flexibility to extend this into the first half of the second (foundation) year. In addition to NT2 lessons, participants follow workshops and courses in study skills, basic mathematics, and Knowledge of Dutch Society (KNM), and they explore a wide range of academic and career options. From the very beginning, each participant is assigned a personal course supervisor. They are also paired early on with a language buddy and a study buddy from our alumni network.

During the foundation year, participants take subjects that form the basis for many degree programmes in the Netherlands, providing access to a wide range of bachelor’s programmes in higher education. After successfully completing the foundation year, participants can take additional courses in a specialisation year. These courses are designed to address any academic deficiencies for specific fields of study (mainly biomedical and technical). The study programme is tailored to the admission requirements of the intended degree. During the bridging programme, participants collect recognised individual certificates that match the requirements of university admission committees (such as the NT2 State Exam Programme II certificate, IELTS or TOEFL for English, and national havo/vwo certificates from James Boswell or CCVX).
